On Friday, March 6, Kappa Delta hosted its 5th Annual Shamrock Pancake Supper benefitting Prevent Child Abuse America and its local counterpart, Prevent Child Abuse Tennessee. Guests from the community and groups of students flocked to were being flipped by the Kappa Deltas in support of the cause. The event featured a wonderful toppings bar for the pancakes, which even included crushed up Thin Mint cookies that had been bought from Sewanee’s local Girl Scouts. Additionally, guests had the opportunity to buy raffle tickets for a chance at winning shown by the immediate Sewanee community and the local area. some of the fabulous prizes donated by favorite local establishments: Mountain Outfitters, Blue Chair, Shenanigans, Dave’s Modern Tavern, Mooney’s, Mountain Goat Market, Julia’s and Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. The Kappa Deltas were so impressed by the amount of support they were Since adopting Prevent Child Abuse America as one of their national philanthropies in 1981, each Kappa Delta chapter has been hosting annual Shamrock events, for which 80 percent of the money raised goes to a local child abuse prevention organization, while 20 percent goes to the national organization PCAA. For Sewanee’s KD chapter, the local child abuse prevention agency is PCAT. The organization, which has its headquarters in Nashville, does an amazing job at preventing child abuse in high risk situations by visiting the homes of families expecting a child and continuing to check on the progress of the family as the child grows. PCAT holds the belief that by stopping child abuse before it can begin, instances of child abuse in future generations will decrease dramatically. Sewanee’s Kappa Delta chapter looks forward to continuing to raise awareness for child abuse prevention in April, which is Child Abuse Prevention Month.
