The Sewanee Purple’s Athlete of the Week is Bella Taylor (C’19). Taylor, who plays for the Sewanee women’s basketball team, has been on fire as of late, averaging 17.7 points per game, 2.7 rebounds per game, 4.7 assists per game, and 3.7 steals per game. Taylor has been a supreme stat-sheet-stuffer over the past 3 games, including a recent 30 point explosion in a loss to Berry, where she shot 10/16 from the field and 10/11 from the free throw line. When asked about this performance, her response was very humble, saying “We lost that game so my emotions weren’t all too happy. I personally didn’t play as well as I should have, so it’s hard to say, ‘I had 30 so I’m happy’ because as a team we didn’t get the win.”

Taylor is a team player who would rather have a great game and lose than score and win. When asked to whom her recent success can be contributed, she accredited her teammates and coach.

She says, “They knock down the shots and make clutch plays. Coach helps me try to develop into the best I can be for not only myself but for the team.” Further showing the qualities of a team player, Taylor gives all the credit to her team. With such unselfishness being shown through Taylor and the rest or the Lady Tigers, one can not help but cheer them to victory.
