The Sewanee Purple’s Athlete of the Week is Brody Stone (C’17), a forward on the Men’s Basketball team. Stone, hailing from Knoxville, Tennessee, is in his fourth season on the team. He currently averages 15.8 points per game (PPG), second on the team to his fellow forward Jorden Williams (C’17), who averages 16.0 PPG. Stone leads the team in rebounds with 10.7 rebounds per game (RPG), making him the only player on the team averaging a double-double. He also leads the team in assists per game with 2.6 and in minutes played per game with 34.2.

Stone was named on January 18 as that week’s Tennessee Sports Writers’ Association (TSWA) Player of the Week. In earning that honor, he defeated players from all three NCAA Divisions. Previous winners of this award this season include players from schools like the University of Memphis and Austin Peay State University. Stone is the first player from a Division Three or Division Two school to win the award this season.

When asked, Stone said “ Being named TSWA POW was a tremendous honor. At first I had never heard of the award and had no idea what it included. Finding out I was chosen out of every collegiate basketball player in the state was crazy. To be the first men’s basketball player from Sewanee to win also meant a lot.” However, Stone was also thankful for those that have helped and encouraged him, saying, “I’d like to first thank God for blessing me with the ability I play basketball and the opportunity to play at Sewanee. Next I wanna thank my family, especially my mom, for encouraging my love for the game and always supporting me. Finally, I have to thank my teammates and coaches for pushing me to be the best player I can be.”

Every issue, Pryor will feature an athlete that has shown exceptional ability in recent games.
