During this moment of administrative instability, now is more important than ever to have your voice heard in The Purple. A top-down approach to University decisions that ignores student input (meaning the customers’ input) of the University is detrimental for Sewanee’s future flourishment. As young adults, we need to use our valuable time here to learn how to communicate our grievances as well as hopes for the future to University authorities respectfully and accurately. While it may be tempting to relinquish oneself to anger and bitterness, this approach neither solves our problems, festers resentment, and leads to further disappointment down the line.
I hope everyone is enjoying their classes and haven’t fallen too far behind yet! Looks like we have some new faces on the Mountain, so whether it’s a freshman, transfer student, new professor or administrator, don’t hesitate to say hello!
I also think I speak for everyone when I say that I hope to see more professors eating with students in McClurg Dining Hall again (a practice that dissolved with the pandemic). We would love to see you!
