Dear readers,
Welcome back to the Mountain! It has been a snowy, hectic, Zoom start to the semester, but we’re here, we’re excited, and we’re ready for all the Sewanee fun! As we returned to our Sewanee home, we were met with uncertainty, community changes, and a snowstorm unlike most of us have seen in our time here. However, the Sewanee students, faculty, and staff all remained strong through the storm and reminded me of why I am honored to attend school here. I am excited to serve as the editor-in-chief for this upcoming year and I am ready to continue the legacy of The Purple and our reliable and honest reporting. I would like to thank my predecessor Rebecca Cole (C ’24) for her hard work and amazing guidance. I am honored to have the opportunity to follow such a great editor.
In this issue, I would like to invite you to check out our interview with Vice-Chancellor Pearigen as he welcomes students back to campus and gets excited about all the changes and renewal he’s got planned for the semester. I would also like to highlight our Junior Editor Kylee Sanders’s article recognizing the McClurg staff who worked tirelessly in order to keep McClurg’s doors open during the storm. Finally, I would like to extend my congratulations to all the students who were gowned in the snowy Convocation, especially my wonderful layout editor Caroline Winslow, and celebrate the new tradition of a faculty speaker, noting that Dr. Stephanie McCarter was a wonderful inaugural speaker.
I hope that you enjoy our first issue of the year and check out our highly requested new addition of a crossword puzzle on the back page! With the semester now in full-swing I am excited to see everyone again and hope that students are all enjoying their classes.
YSR and EQB,
Camille Pfister (C ‘25)
Editor-in-chief
