Order of the Gown Presidential candidates:
Hunter-Nicole Jolley (C’ 26)
Hello! My name is Hunter-Nicole Jolley, and I am so excited for the opportunity to serve as your
Order of the Gown President!. After serving on the OG Council for the past two years, I feel that
I am well-equipped for this position and ready to lead! My platform rests on the idea of presence and purpose. I believe the OG can be expanded to have a more supportive presence on campus that reaches various student organizations. In preparation, I have reached out to many student groups, including SGA, ISC/IFC, Honor Council, SVFD, Bonner/Canale, HOLA, OCCU, SAAC, and Peer Health. I would love to utilize the OG to provide resources to these groups that can help improve academic life. I hope to implement designated mentoring for student athletes to help them balance sports and academic commitments. I would also work on creating a space for students to provide feedback to the registrar on class schedules to help avoid conflicts in meeting their requirements. Regarding purpose, I believe the OG needs to redefine itself based on modern perception of the gown. To this end, I want to hear directly from students. What does the gown represent to you? How can we improve our institution? With this feedback, I would create clearer goals and expectations moving forward. I want the gown to be something students are invested in and feel proud to wear! I hope that you will trust me with your vote and look forward to serving in this role!
Lily Mobley (C’ 26)
I am thrilled at the opportunity to serve as Order of the Gown President. I have been on the Council for two years: as a Sophomore Representative and now as Educational Resources Chair. As President, I want to ensure the Order of the Gown remains honorable and inclusive in its work on campus. I am ready to fulfill this leadership position and to stand as a voice for students. Through my leadership experience working with the Bonner/Canale Program, the Arcadian program, and Greek Life, I have a broader understanding of how the university functions. The two pillars of my presidency are communication and accessibility. Through clarifying processes in the OG Constitution, establishing presidential office hours, and advocating for student concerns to administration, faculty, and staff, I hope to make the intersection between OG Council and OG constituents much stronger. Furthering the connections between OG, SGA, Honor Council, the student trustee, and other organizations will be a vital action in my presidency. The OG President and Council should function as a liaison for advocacy and accessibility between the student body, faculty, staff and administration. I want to reinvigorate community-building initiatives such as the button campaign, events about the gown and its history, and town halls about campus issues. Most of all, I will be a voice for students. Many times, Sewanee students are given the opportunity to listen, but not to speak. I will get a seat at the table of discussions in order to give students a chance to be heard. YSR, EQB, and yours in unity.
Student Government Association Presidential candidates:
Ally McCasland (C’ 26)
Hello! I’m Ally McCasland, and I’m honored to be running for President of the Sewanee Student Government Organization. Over the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a Senator, chairing the Student Wellness Advisory Committee, and contributing to both the Public Safety Committee and the Activities Fee Committee. I have collaborated with administrators to advocate for students’ holistic wellness, transportation needs, active shooter protocols, club funding, and more. It’s been a gift to grow alongside this community and work to make Sewanee stronger. If you’ll trust me with your vote, I’m ready to kick it up a notch. If elected President, I am committed to a senate based on inclusive problem-solving. Campus issues are incredibly complex and meaningful to us all. My goal is to listen to your stories, facilitate dialogue, and ensure that campus progression is not lost in meeting action items. I want to create MEANINGful spaces where students genuinely feel heard; therefore, I am proposing Open Table Nights. These would be casual and recurring events where students can sit down with the senators of their class to have open conversations about what Sewanee means to them. These are not simply ranting sessions. They will act as a springboard for problem-solving. Whether you are passionate about parking, social host policy, or traditions, this will be a space where your voice can shape action.
Additionally, I will implement proxy membership on senate committees so that students can serve the areas that are meaningful to them, even if they are not elected as senators. The future of sustainability, student life, or academic policy can be up to YOU! Regarding policy revision at Sewanee, students should not be treated like the “kids’ table.” We deserve to be included every step of the way. By emphasizing empathy and engagement, we can be proud to say, “Yea, Sewanee’s Right!”
Jack Slade (C’ 26)
Serving as a Senator for the past two years has been an incredible honor, and I hope to continue advocating for and representing our student body as President. My passion for Sewanee is unwavering, and I am committed to ensuring that every student feels heard, supported, and empowered. Below are a few of my potential plans. I am dedicated to fostering a transparent communication culture within the student body, ensuring every perspective is heard by building a collaborative relationship with the administration to address student concerns. My goal is to enhance the first-year experience at Sewanee, helping new students feel welcomed, supported, and engaged in campus life. Additionally, I plan to improve communication between the Student Government Association (SGA) and the student body to increase transparency and awareness of SGA initiatives. I am committed to creating an inclusive community where all students feel welcomed and supported in every space on campus. Furthermore, I aim to expand opportunities for students to engage in meaningful service beyond Sewanee, strengthening our connection with the surrounding community.
