Mountain Goat dines for submissions

by Pagie Wilson

On Feb. 19 at 6 p.m., The Mountain Goat held its first ever dinner and reading in the Mary Sue Cushman Room at the Women’s Center.

With catered food from Julia’s, the evening began with conversation at different tables including the Mountain Goat staff, the selected readers, and the attendees. Joseph Mooradian (C’15), Mountain Goat Music Editor, and Beatrice Troxel (C’15) and others serenaded the room with original and cover songs before the readings began.

Editor-in-Chief Meg Hall (C’15) called attention to introduce the readers and announce the exciting new changes that The Mountain Goat will be presenting this year and issue. This year The Mountain Goat is adding new categories to the issue; in addition to the literary categories of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, there are new sections such as photography/art, music, recipes, and essentially any other creative form a student wishes to submit.

The Mountain Goat is also working on creating an online blog to house video submissions and to publish material online throughout the year, in addition to its printed publication. This blog will allow more submissions to be published and will hopefully add a wider variety of content.

The last portion of the evening was spent listening to the readers’ personal work. There was a variety of content, including a short story by Meg Fellows (C’13), shorts stories and poems read by Sara Cumming (C’13), a ten-minute play by Mary Morrison (C’15), poetry by Robert Walker (C’15), and Non-fiction by Troxel.

Overall, the evening was a success with a large turnout.

The Mountain Goat will be accepting submissions until Mar. 1 and is hoping to host another dinner later this semester in April, after the print edition is out.
