On April 12, the Tigers played Birmingham-Southern and won 7-2. This win put the team at 10-5 overall and 6-0 in their conference. The Tigers won all three of their doubles matches. Eric Roddy (C‘16) and Alex Cooper (C‘15) started the winning streak, winning their matches 8-6. Avery Schober (C‘17) and Sean Laughlin (C‘16) followed, conquering their matches 8-6. Lastly, Rand Jackson (C‘15) and Connor Winkler (C’16) finished with an 8-4 victory.
In singles, the undefeated Schober beat BS’s Christian Matthews 6-4, 6-4. Winkler killed it with a very impressive 6-1, -6-0 success against Patrick Hire. Roddy and Laughlin defeated both of their matches. It was a very exhilarating Saturday for the men’s tennis team.
On April 13, the Tigers destroyed Millsaps 9-0. The team ended the SAA regular season with a perfect 7-0 record, making this the 17th consecutive conference victory for Sewanee. Much like the previous day, the doubles matches were a breeze. The Tigers shut doubles down by winning all three matches once again. In singles Schober dominated his match with Millsaps’ Charles Rees 6-0, 6-2. Winkler defeated Emerson Brudick with a nice pair of 6-1 wins. Roddy beat Sean Solomonof 6-2,6-3. Scott Gallimore (C’17) beat Misa Pjevac 6-4,6-3, while Blake Wilde (’17) defeated Taylor Thomas 6-0,6-1. Lastly David Human (C’14) won with a spectacular 6-0, 6-0 against Thomas Mills. Head Coach Shackelford and Assistant Coach Currie Martin were very pleased with their team this season.
