Letter from the Editor

This “Letter from the Editor” was originally written for the sixth issue in the Advent 2025 semester of The Sewanee Purple and has been reproduced digitally.

Dear readers,

I would like to express my gratitude for having been given the opportunity to serve as Editor-in-Chief for the last two semesters. Thank you for reading and supporting The Purple, and for reaffirming its power on our campus.

This semester would not have been possible without the amazing staff who do so much incredible work to write and make accessible the important stories you all read. A huge thanks to our incredible layout editor, Virginia Hobby, who has shown up full force for The Purple this semester. I’d also like to thank Sanjana Priyonti for her hard work, as well as all of the other editors and writers on staff.

I am happy to be passing the torch to Chloe Wright next semester, who is currently abroad. Her intelligence and dedication will shine through in each and every upcoming issue of The Purple. And a huge thanks to our faculty advisor, Lee Hancock, who has not only advised, but has mentored me and many others at The Purple.

I would like to thank The Purple for all that it has given me during my time at Sewanee: experience, meaningful connections, and a deeper engagement with the campus around me. It has been an instrumental part of my time at Sewanee, and I will never forget it.

I have a comp to get to, so I’m signing off. Thanks again for reading, and see you around.
