The Sewanee Tigers volleyball team faced the Millsaps Majors on October 19 in Sewanee. Unfortunately, they did not finish their weekend of play with a win, but they were able to put up a strong fight against the Majors. The Tigers took the Majors to 5 sets, winning the first set 25-18, the second set 27-25, but falling short in the last three by only a few points. Diamond Stewart (C’17), Sara Jayne Sutton (C’17), and Casey Hasset (C’16) had great performances. Stewart led the team with her third double-double of the week, consisting of 15 kills and 16 digs. She was named SAA Offensive Player of the Week. Sutton led both the Tigers and the Majors in digs with a total of 39, and earned SAA Defensive Player of the Week. Hasset had a strong performance at the net, finishing the game with 6 blocks. Congratulations to all of these girls and the rest of the Lady Tigers on their stellar performances this weekend! Coach Laurendine commented, “It was a good week for us despite the loss against Millsaps. We fought hard the entire match and we continue get better every practice.” The Tigers faced Birmingham-Southern on October 18 and came out with a 3-2 victory, their first ever win against the Panthers. See them play in Juhan Gymnasium Wednesday, October 29 in their final game of the season against Covenant at 7 p.m.
