Sewanee hosts Indoor Invitational

Led by a win by the men’s 4X800 relay team, the Sewanee men and women’s track and field teams continued their early season by hosting their annual Sewanee Indoor Invitational, Saturday, inside the Fowler Athletic Center.

The lone Sewanee win came in the men’s 4X800 relay. The Tiger team of Amiel Emerson (C’16), Jackson Goodwin (C’19), Alec Hill (C’16), and Chris Hornsby (C’19) finished with a winning time of 8:21.85.

The women’s 4X400 meter relay team of Kailey Bissell (C’18), Meredith Stuber (C’19), L’Or Puymartin (C’17), and Kelsie Schiavone (C’19) finished second behind Birmingham-Southern with a time of 4:36.60.

In the women’s triple jump, Karagan Day (C’18) finished third with a leap of 9.74m. After improving on each jump, Day’s leap was on her third attempt.

In the men’s 55-meter dash finals, Cortez Brown (C’16) finished sixth with a time of 6.74 seconds. That was after Brown was fourth in the prelims at 6.63 seconds.

Later in the meet, Davis Couch (C’17) finished sixth in the men’s 400-meters. Couch earned a point after he crossed the finish line at 54.23 seconds.

As the races got longer, Goodwin finished seventh with a time of 4:38.77 in the men’s mile. Teammate Mark McAlister (C’17) finished 11th in the same race with a time of 4:42.33.

Finally, Tyler Fishback (C’17) continued a great season when he took the bronze in the men’s high jump. Fishback’s best leap was at 1.75 meters.
