The Sewanee Purple’s Athlete of the Week is Jorden Williams (C’17), a guard on the Men’s Basketball team. Williams, who’s from Chattanooga, Tennessee, leads his team with 15.8 Points Per Game (PPG) and is tied for second on the team for assists, with 1.6 Assists Per Game (APG). Williams leads the team in three point percentage, with 39.3% of his three-pointers going in, and he leads the team with 3.2 three-pointers going in each game. Williams is third in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) in PPG.

Williams is also one of the most decorated players currently on the team, earning All-SAA Second Team in his freshman year (2013-2014) and All-SAA First Team the year after (2014-2015). He is currently a top candidate to earn SAA Player of the Year, as well as to earn First Team status again.

What stands out is that he has broken the Sewanee record for most three-pointers made over his entire career, with him currently having made 271 over the last four seasons. At the rate he’s currently shooting, he gets a three-pointer around once every ten minutes. Williams said, “It feels great to break it [the record], it was a goal of mine coming into Sewanee. I worked very hard at my shooting over the years and it’s exciting for it to pay off like this. The guy who had the record in front me could really really shoot. It makes me proud that I could be talked about with him and be mentioned in the same sentence. I would like to thank my step-dad and dad for making me shoot 500-1k jumpers a day over the summers and school days to make sure I could always shoot with the elites. It’s a great honor.”

Every issue, Pryor will feature an athlete that has shown exceptional ability in recent games.
