Biehl Commons, Sewanee’s relatively new study spot and cafe, received a makeover for an engaging and spectacular Drag Brunch put together by Tigers Entertainment Board (TEB) last week. Students walked into a candle lit venue complete with centerpieces on every table and fun music, creating an immersive experience right from the start.
TEB put on arguably one of their most popular events so far this semester. TEB’s Drag Brunch took place from 6 to 9 p.m. which, although a little bit of an unconventional time for a brunch, did not stop a large crowd of Sewanee students from attending. Every table in Biehl Commons was full, with some students even standing around the perimeter of the room.
The event included a brunch buffet with a selection of popular brunch dishes. The chocolate croissants and strawberries with Nutella to dip them in were big hits at our table. The event also included a mocktail bar complete with bartenders and three different non-alcoholic and themed drink options.
TEB also put a lot of effort into transforming Biehl Commons into the perfect venue for an evening drag brunch. Each table had a flier about drag culture, with an explanation of what drag is, a guide for drag queen etiquette, a list of drag terminology, and a list of on campus resources for queer students.
Tigers Entertainment Board bought in four performers, all from the Chattanooga area; Bambii Montice, Egyptian Goddess, Kristina SisKole, and Bebe Dupree. Each queen did four sets throughout the three-hour event with a fifteen-minute intermission between each. All of the different sets were complete with full glam, costume changes, and choreographed routines making this event a real-life spectacular drag brunch right here at Sewanee.
One of the most notable performances of the night came from Bambii Montice who performed a Sabrina Carpenter themed set complete with a beautiful Sabrina Carpenter inspired light blue outfit and a full routine to the songs “Bed Chem” and “Juno.”
Sewanee students enjoyed the event. Everyone in attendance was encouraged to bring one-dollar bills to tip the queens. There was so much enthusiasm among the crowd, with many students offering up their one-dollar bills and cheering loudly during each of the performances.
Mary Pomeroy (C’ 27) said of her experience at the event: “It was slay! I love how TEB is putting on more unique and fun events!”
Many positive opinions were being expressed around campus.
“This was one of the best events TEB has done. The queens were fantastic and I’m glad I was able to experience it!” Annalise Doyle, C’26
Another student, junior Ivy Moore said, “The drag brunch was honestly one of the best events I’ve ever been to on campus, everyone was really supportive, excited, and cheering the whole time. The queens were all wonderful, the food was yummy, and I was so glad I got to go.”
It is clear that Tigers Entertainment Board’s Drag Brunch was extremely popular in the eyes of many students across campus, and many are hoping for more events like this in the future.
